WHO ARE WE?
Trans Photography Collective aims to connect and create opportunities for transgender photographers across the UK, and increase representation within the photography industry.

We're a relatively new group, having grown out of a community arts project in 2025, and are still working to define exactly who we are and what we want to do with the collective.
As a starting point we'd like to create opportunities for trans photographers (both hobbyist and professional) to connect and grow, including photowalks and other social events, trans led photography projects (see below!), workshops, mentorship schemes and more.
TRANS PORTRAITS COMMUNITY PHOTO PROJECT
Our current main project is the Trans Portraits community photo project and magazine. Initially called Bristol Trans Portraits, the project began its life in 2020, providing free photoshoots to trans and non-binary people in Bristol.

The aim of the project is to provide trans people with the opportunity to tell our own stories, both behind and in front of the lens - we hope this will work towards counteracting some of the negative media attention currently directed towards trans people.

We're currently working on issue 2 of the magazine, which is set to release in November 2025. The theme for this next issue is Trans Joy!

SUPPORT OUR WORK
Trans Photography Collective currently operates on an entirely voluntary basis. We have a small group of backers on Patreon, which allows us to pay web-hosting costs, and produce our Trans Portraits Project annual magazine.

As the collective grows, we'd love to be able to offer more. We're keen to create more opportunities for trans photographers to exhibit their work and develop their skills, including fairly paid opportunities to contribute to our magazine, workshops, mentorship sessions, photowalks and more!
In order to do any of that, we need support! Join us on Patreon for as little as £1 per month to support our work and keep us going!
NEED A PHOTOGRAPHER?
One of our first aims for 2025 is to start working towards building a network of trans photographers throughout the UK. To this end we've compiled our new transgender photographers directory.

The directory is intended as a resource for connecting clients, organisers and community groups with photographers - which we believe is particularly needed in the wake of April's Supreme Court ruling and everything that has happened since.
